New Faces In New Places Inspire NFL Prop Bets For Brady, Burrow

With a multitude of free agent NFL players signing with new teams for the 2020 season, oddsmakers have keyed in on some of the more interesting situations around the league. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cincinnati Bengals have attracted the most substantial attention, with one team looking for immediate success, and the other looking to build for the future.

Despite the heavy focus on Tampa and Cincinnati, top offshore sportsbooks have placed odds on a number of teams that are putting together a new nucleus of players on offense.  However, there are two qualifiers for the bet to become official. The player that is being wagered on must start game one of the 2020 season, and the season cannot be less than 16 games for any reason. This is because the NFL prop bets are based on statistical totals projected across a 16 game season. Any fewer games than that will damage the integrity of the odds.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The gulf coast of Florida has been abuzz with excitement since Tom Brady announced that he was bringing his talents to Tampa Bay to try and hoist another Lombardi Trophy for the Buccaneers’ faithful. Tom-Terrific will be inserted into an offense that includes two dynamic wide receivers in Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, both of whom posted enormous numbers last year with Jameis Winston under center. Can we expect similar production from a quarterback who will be 43 years old when the 2020 NFL season begins?

These odds are preliminary and offer slim payout margins for both options, but we can at least make some judgments on potential performance based on the lines the oddsmakers have created.  Brady will post numbers that look something like this: 4400 Passing Yards, 32 TDs, 11 Ints.  Not quite the yardage totals that Winston was able to amass but one cannot ignore the significantly lower amount of turnovers.

With added ball control on offense and two receivers that appear poised to eclipse 1,250 yards receiving with 9+ touchdowns each, Tampa Bay can expect to notch several more entries into the win column. Expect the cannon to fire many times at Raymond James Stadium over the next two seasons, and you can bet on the NFL to take notice.

Cincinnati Bengals

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is coming fresh off of a NCAA national championship and is expected to be the first pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Cincinnati Bengals hold the rights to that pick and there have been no whispers suggesting that they will trade the selection to another team, although it would definitely command much interest. There is certainly some all-star talent in place for the Bengals that will greatly assist Burrows’ entrance into the league, but the franchise has a history of poor performance that should concern anyone making future projections for Cincinnati.

Again, the margins for payouts are quite slim with no long odds posted as of yet. Perennial All-Pro wide receiver A.J. Green has an over/under set at 975 yards and 6 touchdowns. These are decent totals but Green can post these numbers with the worst quarterback in the league. Running back Joe Mixon is a hard-nosed runner and will keep defenses honest in 2020, and appears positioned to rush for 1100 yards with at least seven touchdowns. These also represent numbers that Mixon could achieve given the most mundane of circumstances.

Borrow appears positioned to throw for a little bit under 3700 yards and around 20 touchdowns. This would represent a very good total for a rookie quarterback to aspire to, especially on the Bengals. If the interception numbers end up around the low teens, then the team should be in line for a few victories which can go a long way toward building for the 2021 season and beyond. Despite this notion of goodwill, Colin Cowherd at Fox Sports Radio reports that Burrow looks like a bust to him.
