The NFL Hall of Fame game is tonight as the NFL preseason kicks off with a matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Chargers.
While the game will likely resemble a practice squad matchup, it will give fans something to watch as we begin the countdown to the regular season. Last year, hardly any starters played in the Hall of Fame game, but key players were on the sidelines helping with plays and signals.
Betting on the NFL and the start of the preseason is risky, but also a great way to get prepared for the NFL betting season.
Chargers On The Clock
Last year, the Chargers advanced to the NFL wildcard round, where they lost to the Texans 32-12. Despite making the playoffs two seasons in a row, quarterback Justin Herbert has yet to win a postseason NFL game. His stats have been mediocre at best in postseason play, combining for two touchdowns and four interceptions.
Critics have compared Herbert to Kirk Cousins, who is famously known for choking in the postseason. Cousins, however, has had great stats in the postseason, but his overall playoff record is a dismal 1-5.
The Lions’ Super Bowl Woes
Last year, the Lions also made the NFL playoffs and advanced to the divisional round, where they lost to the Commanders. However, the Lions had one of their best seasons in franchise history and led the odds to win the Super Bowl for part of the season.
The year before (2023), the Lions made it to the NFC championship before losing to the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers would then go on to lose the Super Bowl. The Lions have never made it to the NFL Super Bowl since its inception in 1934.
