50 Million Americans Will Bet Up To $16 Billion On Super Bowl LVII

Super Bowl 57 is being played in Glendale, Arizona’s State Farm Stadium – home of the Fiesta Bowl, the Arizona Cardinals, and host to major national sporting and entertainment events.

50 million Americans are expected to bet on this year’s Super Bowl. The total amount to be spent on Super Bowl betting is projected to exceed $16 billion, twice the amount that was wagered in 2022.

This is also the first time that a Super Bowl will be played in a state that features legal domestic sports betting.

Legal sports betting in Arizona began in September of 2021. Gamblers located in AZ can wager on sports at retail sportsbooks, online, or by downloading mobile sports betting apps.

There is even a retail sportsbook located inside State Farm Stadium for those that will be attending Super Bowl LVII. The minimum age to bet on the Super Bowl in Arizona is 21.

States With No Domestic Sports Betting

The following US states will not have sportsbooks open in time for betting on the Super Bowl on February 12th.

  • Alabama
  • Alaska
  • California
  • Florida*
  • Georgia
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Kentucky
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • Nebraska*
  • Oklahoma
  • South Carolina
  • Texas
  • Utah
  • Vermont

Sports betting in Florida was briefly available in 2021. A legal challenge to the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s gaming compact with the Sunshine State shut down all retail, online, and mobile sportsbooks.

The challenge is currently in federal appellate court and may reach the US Supreme Court. Until a final decision is rendered, local sportsbooks in Florida will remain closed.

Nebraska sports betting became legal on February 1, 2023. That gives Cornhusker State-based gamblers plenty of time to find a domestic book and wager on Super Bowl odds.

The only problem is there are no retail sportsbooks open in Nebraska. There’s plenty more legislative red tape to mow through and licenses to issue before that can happen. Lawmakers have already stated they won’t be open in time to bet on the big game.

Offshore Super Bowl Betting Sites

Between the online sportsbook sites that are recommended here at LBO, members from all US states are accepted. This is because there are no federal or state laws that prohibit them from allowing US-based gamblers to use their services to bet on sports.

That said, some of these international sportsbook sites restrict membership from certain states. We advise reading through the terms and conditions prior to joining any of the sportsbook sites featured here.

These online NFL sportsbooks can be used to bet on the Super Bowl in any of the states listed above. Also, be sure to check the minimum age requirement. It ranges from 18 to 21 and does not adhere to local regulations.

Super Bowl LVII coverage begins on FOX and affiliated streaming platforms at 6:30 PM this Sunday. Bets can be placed pregame or in-play wagering can happen from the kickoff through the fourth quarter.

Don’t forget to investigate the thousands of Super Bowl prop bets that are posted at the sportsbooks that top our rankings. They are a lot of fun and have the potential to cash in every few minutes.
