NY Billionaire And Mets Owner Steve Cohn Eyes Casino License For Big Apple

Steve Cohn, a New York billionaire and the current owner of the New York Mets, is going all out to obtain one of the few domestic casino options up for grabs in the Big Apple.

Recently Bloomberg has reported that Cohn has hired the best team money can buy to help in his efforts to be awarded an NYC domestic casino license. According to some sites, Cohn has an estimated net worth of 17.4 billion and has been eying a domestic casino license since it was announced that three licenses would be granted to the NYC area.

Cohn recently invited Queens residents to City Field to discuss the neighborhood’s future. For nearly three hours, Cohn talked about turning the environs around City Field into a year-round entertainment destination. Cohn has already planned 12 community events to discuss the area’s future.

NY state officials have stated that only projects embraced by the community will be considered for one of the three domestic casino licenses. Cohn has said that if awarded a domestic casino license, he plans to partner with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

Are Online Casinos Legal In New York?

Yes, online casinos are allowed to operate in New York if they operate outside of the state. Legal gambling options in New York consist of online casinos, sportsbooks, lotteries, state-based casinos, and state-based sportsbooks launched after the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) repeal.

Are There Any Casinos Operating In New York City?

Resorts World NYC is currently the only casino operating inside the Big Apple. However, an additional 16 tribal casinos are operating in the state. In addition to the domestic locations, numerous online casinos are available to NY residents operating outside the state’s jurisdiction.

Federal gambling laws do not forbid online casinos from accepting NY players or players from any other state in the US. However, states can pass legislation to prohibit gambling online. Some legitimate online casinos have opted out of the NY market due to fear of future prosecution after new laws are passed.

Some of the online casino sites we review accept players from NYC as they are one of the biggest markets in the United States, and currently, no laws prevent them from operating.

Three new domestic casino licenses are currently up for grabs in NYC, and more are expected in the future. NYC gaming regulators will award the licenses to the best fit for the community, and Cohn is taking the appropriate steps to grab one.
